Love
By Langston Hughes
Love is a wild wonder
And stars that sing
Rocks that burst asunder
And mountains that take wing.
John Henry with his hammer
Makes a little spark.
That little spark is love
Dying in the dark.

Langston Hughes was a seminal figure in the Harlem Renaissance which promoted African-American arts to a widespread public. The Renaissance along with the invention of Bebop were one of the most important cultural movements of the last half of the 20th Century. Hughes' work along with that of other artists and musicians in the Harlem Renaissance went on to inspire generations of artists both black and white.
